Barbara Zuleger of Performance Partners shares a couple of tips you can use when you’re out networking.
Think of yourself as the host. By being in this mindset you feel and become more in control with the things around you. You get to act assertive and confident. You are able to welcome other people to the networking group that takes some pressure off. You won’t feel like waiting to try and meet new people.
Have an exit line. Before you go to the networking meeting, have some idea what your exit line will be. We all get caught up in conversations that go on and on and we want to meet new people and the person you’re talking to should meet new people. Know what you’re going to say in order to stop that conversation when it has reached its natural conclusion. Something as simple as ‘it’s been really nice to meet you and I hope you enjoy the event’ would be a good way to do it.
