“If you want to feel more confident and comfortable at a networking event the best thing that you can do is to get involved.” Says Liz Uram of The Coach & Mentor Group. Talk to the event coordinator or whoever is putting down the event and ask them if they need help with greeting and being a hostess. That way, it gives you a reason to meet a lot of people without that awkward uncomfortable feeling of walking up to somebody and not really knowing what to say to them. Having a role also gives you a graceful way to enter and exit conversations (e.g. checking in to see if anyone needs anything, leaving to attend to your duty).
You can be an ambassador with a nice little name tag and have a reason to meet everybody or as many people who are coming in. You also get the added visibility of generally being introduced by the event. On that note it provides you more visibility and it makes you more comfortable and you get to meet a lot more people which you can easily recognize by faces.
So when you’re networking, have a role and you will have a much confident and easier time while meeting a lot of people.
